the ice cubes toyko – h&m flagship store

the ice cubes tokyo project was commissioned by a developer from hong kong for whom jun mitsui & associates architects had realized two retail projects before. as the regulations concerning high and sun/shadow were very restrictive, intensive calculations were done to arrive the best result.

one important design goal was to make the building appear light and slim. the cube surfaces were covered with a ceramic pattern on the outer surface of the glazing. thus, a pure-white cube expression could be achieved.
